Congratulating the Hon’ble Prime Minister’s government for announcing this decision, Dr Vijay Kalantri, Chairman, MVIRDC World Trade Center Mumbai remarked, “We are happy that the Hon’ble Prime Minister has conferred this highest civilian award on these stalwarts, who rightly deserve it. This is a long overdue decision as they are visionary leaders who laid foundation for India’s agriculture and economic growth.”

Dr. Kalantri mentioned that former PM Mr. P.V Narasimha Rao laid foundation for India’s entry to the global market by unleashing economic reforms through liberalisation, privatisation and globalisation policy.

Dr. Kalantri further added, “Former PM Mr Charan Singh was a champion of social welfare through upliftment of farmers and marginalised sections of the society. Mr Singh and scientist Dr Swaminathan transformed India into the agriculture powerhouse by increasing farm productivity and empowering farmers.
